Giant collaboration of Brisa and Enerjisa that saves TL 2.4 billion in energy efficiency

The energy efficiency practices to be implemented at the Brisa factories under the umbrella of “Energy of My Business” of Enerjisa Enerji are expected to save TL 2.4 Billion throughout their economic life. The savings to be achieved with this investment of Brisa in a year corresponds to the annual heating requirement of 6,666 households with 4 members, as well as the annual water requirement of 458 households.

Enerjisa Enerji, the pioneering energy company in terms of energy transformation in Turkey, and Brisa, a joint venture of Sabancı Holding and Bridgestone Corporation that leads the tire industry in sustainability, took action to provide energy efficiency in Izmit and Aksaray factories of Brisa. The Energy Performance Contracts of the project, which will transform all heating and cooling systems of the factories and make them more efficient, were signed in line with the financing and performance model to be implemented as part of the collaboration.

The agreement signed by and between Murat Pınar, CEO at Enerjisa Enerji, and Haluk Kürkçü, CEO at Brisa, will enable Brisa to reduce its natural gas and water consumptions in Izmit and Aksaray factories, to achieve energy efficiency and to contribute to its sustainability goals.

A record-breaking saving of TL 2.4 Billion to be achieved throughout the economic life of the system

Thanks to the specific heat pumps designed in line with the internal processes and technologies of each factory, the Izmit and Aksaray factories of Brisa are expected to save TL 117 Million-worth energy and TL 2.2 Million-worth water per annum. The amount of saving is expected to reach TL 2.4 Billion in net present value (NPV) throughout the economic life of energy efficiency practices. The collaboration agreement sets an example in the industry in terms of production economy, where energy expenses are the greatest costs.

Stating that over 68,000 tons of carbon emissions would be prevented thanks to the renewable energy and efficiency projects that were launched in 2022 and would be commissioned in 2023 under the umbrella of the Energy of My Business, Murat Pınar, CEO at Enerjisa Enerji, remarked: “The ever-increasing energy requirement has resulted in energy efficiency and energy conservation to become a necessity. Enabling energy efficiency in these times when energy becomes a prominent issue requires the energy generation, transmission and consumption activities to be considered as a whole. We, at Enerjisa Enerji, bring energy efficiency practices together with our customers under the umbrella of the Energy of My Business, with the awareness of our responsibilities. As part of these practices, we develop innovative, impact-oriented and sustainable products and services that are role models in the industry.

We are very pleased to include Brisa to our collaborations in energy efficiency that we establish for a better future. Once the installation works are completed as part of the project, we, at Enerjisa, will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and efficiency of the system for 21 months and 15 months at the Izmit and Aksaray factories of Brisa, respectively, via the performance guarantee we provide. Thanks to the model we have developed, the engineering solution and financing of the projects will also be provided by Enerjisa, and the necessary expansion requirements in the infrastructure will be considered taking into account the future requirements of the factory while installing the heat pumps at the Izmit and Aksaray factories of Brisa. Thus, it is a model process that enables savings, pays for itself, and to be completely owned by the customer at the end of the contract, and throughout which the experienced staff of Enerjisa will supervise at every stage.”

The heat pump installations in the factories of Brisa to enable saving equivalent to the heating and water requirements of 6,666 and 458 households, respectively

Stating that the heat pump systems to be installed at Brisa factories would enable reducing fuel-related carbon emissions, Haluk Kürkçü, CEO at Brisa, included, “Brisa is one of the leading companies in Turkey in the industry and production with our two factories. Considering the relationship between energy consumption and almost all production operations, we are aware that efficient use of energy is a prerequisite for sustainable development. Energy efficiency projects are among our top priorities in achieving the goals we set as part of tackling the climate change. We are proud to have taken such a big step in our decarbonization roadmap to reach our net zero emission goals by 2050. Thanks to the heat pump to be installed by Enerjisa as part of our collaboration, the heat released from the cooling system will be recycled as heating in our factories, thus enabling us to save the related natural gas and water consumptions. The project will enable us to save an amount equivalent to the heating and water requirements of 6,666 and 458 households with 4 members, respectively. The project will be commissioned by the end of the year at both of the factories. I would like to congratulate all Brisa and Enerjisa teams who put their efforts as part of this collaboration.”

Underlining that they would continue to take pioneering steps in terms of sustainability, Kürkçü stated, “At Brisa, we begin thinking of all operations with sustainability. We consider sustainability in three main focuses; i.e., transition to low carbon economy, transition to low contact economy and social-cultural transformation. Hence, we set our emission reduction goals in line with the 1.5 degree scenario. We got them approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). Our goal is to reduce our direct emissions by 56 percent by 2030 and to reach net zero by 2050.”

Enerjisa Enerji continues to carry out efficient operations for the world we live in and to offer integrated solutions tailored to the various requirements of its customers, with its impact-oriented sustainability approach.
