Enerjisa Guarantees The Electricity Supply For Over 6,6 Millions Of People In 7 Cities Including Ankara

Başkent EDAŞ that was acquired by Enerjisa under the scope of privatization in 2009 will henceforth continue its activities under the trade-name of “Enerjisa Başkent Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş”.


The Chairperson of Sabancı Holding, Güler Sabancı stated that; “As Sabancı, with our shareholder Verbund, we started our goal of being the leading and consistent energy leader of the sector in Turkey. From now on, Başkent Electricity will proceed as Enerjisa Başkent Electricity Distribution Company and will be distributing electricity to seven different cities in its region with its differentiated services.”

The Executive Board Member of Verbund, Günther Rabensteiner: “Our brand is dedicated to economic and ecological excellence in everything we do – and this is exactly the way for Enerjisa in our sound partnership with Sabanci. For our common strategic vision it is therefore vital that the distribution company Başkent EDAŞ becomes a solid part of Enerjisa’s corporate identity.”

Sabancı Holding Energy Group President, Selahattin Hakman states that:
“Our Enerjisa has been achieving individually all of its objectives determined in 2005. Our target is to transform Enerjisa Başkent Electricity into a service corporation that can set a good example for the entire Europe.”

The CEO of Enerjisa, Yetik K. Mert states that:
“Enerjisa’s service approach mainly focused on high quality and customer satisfaction will be felt more by the customers.”

Başkent Electricity Distribution Company (Başkent EDAŞ) acquired in 2009 by Enerjisa conducting its activities through the joint venture of Sabancı Holding and VERBUND, Austria’s leading electricity company and moving ahead on its way to become the leader of Turkish electricity sector with great speed and determination will henceforth continue its activities under the trade-name of “Enerjisa Başkent Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş.” (Enerjisa Başkent Electricity Distribution Company).

In the press conference held in relation to this new period that has started at Enerjisa Başkent Electricity company, the Chairperson of Sabancı Holding, Güler Sabancıstated the following in her speech: "As Sabancı, with our shareholder Verbund, we started our goal of being the leading and consistent energy leader of the sector in Turkey. From now on, Başkent Electricity will proceed as Enerjisa Başkent Electricity Distribution Company and will be distributing electricity to seven different cities in its region with its differentiated services.”

She also stated: “Enerjisa won the first electricity distribution privatization and took over Başkent Electricity Distribution Company in 2009, based on our vertical integrated business model. Within the 2,5 years, both the previous and also the newcoming employees of Başkent Electricity worked together as a devoted team and achieved very significant changes and make the company to undertake the responsibility of Enerjisa brand for today. I believe that Enerjisa Baskent Electricity Distribution will provide high quality service with approach of customer satisfaction and operational excellence for people living in Ankara, Zonguldak, Bartin, Karabük, Kirikkale, Kastamonu and Çankırı provinces.”

Sabancı Holding Energy Group President Selahattin Hakman stated that the provision of services by Başkent Electricity under the trademark of Enerjisa is an important milestone for both Enerjisa and its customers; and added, “Incorporation of Başkent EDAŞ under the structure of Enerjisa is an important indicator showing that Enerjisa has been individually achieving all its growth objectives based on vertical integration determined in 2005. Furthermore, it has made a significant contribution to the liberalization of the electricity market as the first distribution region that has been privatized and acquired by Enerjisa and its strong shareholders in Turkey.”

The target is to set a good example for Europe

In his speech, Hakman stated, “Our target is to turn Enerjisa Başkent Electricity company into a service corporation setting a good example for Europe. The roadmap determined for achieving this target structured on the basis of operational excellence understanding of Sabancı and VERBUND is currently implemented.”
Hakman also stated that “I would like to thank and express my gratitude to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Energy Market Regulatory Authority, the Privatization Administration, all our consultants and advisors for their support and suggestions, and, in particular, to the people of Enerjisa working devotedly and keeping their shoulder to the wheel in order to achieve the quality objective throughout this process during which Başkent Electricity has deserved to bear the leading trademark of Enerjisa devoted to being on the side of people and life.”

Those receiving services from Enerjisa will feel different

Yetik K. Mert, CEO of Enerjisa stated in his speech that Enerjisa’s service approach focuses on high quality and customer satisfaction which will be felt still more by the customers and added, “We have commissioned the SAP ISU system, the most advanced application package in the world in Customer Information Systems; we are rendering our services with very short waiting periods in our Call Centre. We have established the first SCADA automation infrastructure in Turkish electricity distribution sector; thus, we have become capable of creating solutions for any problems on the network in short periods of time. Now, we are operating our networks up to the international standards. We have standardized all our processes and locations and eliminated the differences. Our customers will be able to receive the same service at the same quality level from every centre of ours.

All this are only the first steps, we are on the bottom rung of the latter, and we will continue to renew and improve our network infrastructure for undisrupted and high-quality delivery of electricity. We will also perform very important activities in the next period ahead of us in order to allow our customers from Ankara and its vicinity to receive services with the quality of Enerjisa meeting the global standards.”

What has been done so far?

The company meeting the electricity requirement of 6.623.723 people living in the cities of Ankara, Kırıkkale, Çankırı, Zonguldak, Karabük, Kastamonu, and Bartın within the distribution region of Başkent Electricity will be “along with life” under the guarantee of Enerjisa. Enerjisa Başkent Electricity has brought a breath of fresh air to the sector with its investments made and its projects developed since 2009; and it has taken important steps on its way to become an electricity distribution company meeting European standards.

Enerjisa Başkent Electricity has been renewed and has also completed its institutionalization under the structure of Enerjisa. Its web site has been renewed and it has started to provide information and online services for its customers through the web site www.enerjisa.com.tr. The Customer Service Centers located in Ankara and in the neighbouring cities are currently renewed in accordance with Enerjisa’s corporate identity. The call center was upgraded to international standards and has started to provide 7/24 services for its customers via the telephone number 444 4 372.

Sabancı-VERBUND joint venture, Enerjisa Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. (Enerjisa Electricity Distribution Co. Inc.) participated in the tender held for privatization through block sale method of 100 percent shares of Başkent Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. (Başkent EDAŞ) and won the tender upon offering the highest bid at the amount of 1.225 million US dollar on July 1, 2008. The transfer of the shares of Başkent EDAŞ to Enerjisa Electricity Distribution Co. Inc. was performed on January 28, 2009. The company’s field of activity covers the cities of Ankara, Çankırı, Kırıkkale, Karabük, Zonguldak, Kastamonu, and Bartın, it has 3,4 millions of subscribers and meets the electricity requirement of over 6.6 millions of people. The Company has also completed the process of institutionalization under the structure of Enerjisa and now, it provides services for its customers with its renewed face as Enerjisa Başkent Electricity.
