Enerjisa Enerji will protect tens of thousands of square meters of forest area against wildfires thanks to the KOZALAK system

Enerjisa Enerji has the goal to detect forest fires early with the KOZALAK project, which is an initiative supported by Enerjisa Enerji including an early detection system for forest fires. Thanks to the KOZALAK early detection system for wildfires, which is being implemented as a pilot project within the borders of Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry, tens-of-thousand-square-meter area will be protected against possible wildfires.
Having Sabancı Holding and E. ON SE as its main shareholders, Enerjisa Enerji, Turkey’s leading company in electricity distribution and retail, 20% of which is publicly traded, has begun using the "KOZALAK" Early Detection System for wildfires for the first time in order to detect the forest fires in the Aegean Region early. The system is one of the initiatives supported by Enerjisa Enerji in the Big Bang Start-up Challenge event, during which the best startups that apply to ITU Çekirdek are elected. Thanks to the early warning system, the forest fires are detected early and a warning is sent, air quality is measured and toxic, flammable and explosive gases will be detected. Thus, the forest fires will be responded and even prevented as soon as possible, as they cause great destruction in forests.

Muğla, the pilot region
The "KOZALAK” project, which is among the top three projects of 2021 in the Big Bang Start-up Challenge event supported by ITU Çekirdek, where the best initiatives are elected every year, has begun to be implemented with the support of Enerjisa Enerji. The system was launched in Bodrum region, within the borders of Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry. The goal of the system is to protect tens-of-thousand-square-meter area against possible wildfires. The system is insured by Aksigorta against any damage to the system in the event of a possible wildfire.

System to be charged from a renewable energy resource
Applied in forest areas without causing any damage to the trees, the system has a battery life of up to 5 years and can be re-charged from renewable energy resources. The system does not require any infrastructure work and can be easily installed in the target region. Using the long-range mesh network technology, communication between the modules can be maintained up to 15 km. Furthermore, data collected from the devices can be displayed instantly via the İnternet, and information flow to the relevant authorities is sustained.

We are aware of the fact that we play a decisive role in tackling the climate crisis; and we continue our investments in line with this consideration.

Providing information regarding the KOZALAK project, Murat Pınar, CEO of Enerjisa Enerji, stated:‘’ Climate change and environmental pollution are among the most significant issues that the world considers on a global scale for the first time. The forest fires, which we have unfortunately witnessed with great sadness in recent years, can be considered as the domino effect resulting from the climate change and environmental pollution, and constantly remind us that severe and long-term actions should be taken in this regard. The losses we suffered throughout the country due to the wildfires that lasted for days last year, and the wildfires that affected all America and Europe revealed that new generation action plans should be implemented. On the other hand, the energy industry is one of the significant players in the climate crisis in terms of its carbon footprint. At Enerjisa Enerji, we are aware of the fact that we play a decisive role in tackling the climate crisis; and we continue our investments in line with this consideration.

We protect tens of thousands of square meters of land
Thanks to KOZALAK, an initiative that we support for our world and people in line with our impact-oriented business model, which we adopt as the roadmap of our sustainability approach, we are implementing an early detection system for wildfires over a large area in Muğla. The system enables early detection of and quick response to a possible fire incident. It is one of our biggest dreams to bring the Kozalak system, which has been launched in Muğla region, with the forests throughout our country and to protect our most valuable heritage. At Enerjisa, we will continue to support the works regarding the climate change, which is a critical issue that we attach significance both worldwide and nationwide, via our business models as well as our volunteering colleagues. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for supporting us throughout our project.”
