Enerjisa Enerji Continues to Raise Awareness of Children with “I Protect My Energy”

Enerjisa Enerji continues to raise awareness of children on energy efficiency and conservation in the new season with I Protect My Energy, the globally recognized social responsibility project which has been ongoing since 2010. Having gathered over 300,000 students in 750 schools in 15 provinces so far, Enerjisa Enerji will keep raising awareness of children for a better future with the theater play, ‘May the Stars Not Be Offended’, Energy Protectors training and the story contest in the 14th year of the project.

The results of the survey regarding the awareness of children on energy conservation, which was conducted by Enerjisa Enerji in collaboration with an independent survey company, are interesting. According to a survey conducted with 1000 parents with children (ages 7-13) nationwide, 54 percent of the children were observed to have limited awareness on energy saving. While saving water is the most sensitive issue for children among saving habits, 8 out of 10 children raise awareness on the issue at schools.

Raising awareness on energy efficiency and corporate social responsibilities, Enerjisa Enerji, the leading electricity distribution, retail, customer solutions and e-mobility company in Türkiye, sustains and develops its globally recognized social responsibility project, ‘I Protect My Energy,’ which was launched 14 years ago under its distribution companies, Ayedaş, Başkent Edaş and Toroslar Edaş.

Continuing to carry out activities to raise and popularize awareness of primary school students on energy conservation, the ambassadors of our future, as part of its social responsibility activities that will contribute to the society, Enerjisa Enerji becomes a role model for children in learning about energy efficiency and conservation in a fun way with its ‘I Protect My Energy’ project.

The theater play, ‘May the Stars Not Be Offended,’ will be staged for children at the Anatolian Side of Istanbul, Ankara, Kastamonu, Adana and Hatay during the new period of the social responsibility project, ‘I Protect My Energy.’ Energy Protectors, a gamified learning program conducted in collaboration with the Science Virus as part of ‘I Protect My Energy’ which has the purpose of raising awareness on the protection of the world's energy resources and conservation of energy, will be held with the participation of volunteering university students in Istanbul, Kastamonu, Ankara, Adana, Mersin, and Gaziantep.

Energy conservation awareness of children limited

The findings of the survey, which was conducted by Enerjisa Enerji in collaboration with an independent survey company to measure the awareness of children (ages 7-10) in Turkey on energy conservation, revealed that kids are mostly aware of protecting the environment by 62 percent. While 5 out of 10 children were observed to have limited information on energy conservation, kids are not very much aware of global warming nor carbon footprint. Whilst 8 percent of children are aware of carbon footprint, 35 percent have no knowledge of global warming.

Water: the energy resource that children are mainly aware of

Children are mainly aware of water as the energy resource by 63 percent, while the awareness on keeping the water not running while not using was revealed to be the most sensitive measure taken by children with 67 percent. While 6 out of every 10 children turn the electricity off if not needed, 53 percent of the kids contribute to recycling.

Families and schools, the main information providers

While almost all of the interviewed parents care about their children raising awareness on energy conservation, families and schools prevail in providing children with information on energy conservation and saving. The ratio of children who acquire information from online and mobile applications to have knowledge about issues such as global warming and climate change is also quite high. While 7 out of 10 children were stated to get support from an information source such as books or education, the platforms where children spend time can also be used as a source of information.

“A better future is possible with children”

Stating that they will continue to raise awareness on energy efficiency, which is of critical importance in tackling climate change and developing sustainable societies and cities, Ebru Taşcıoğlu, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Capabilities at Enerjisa Enerji, underlines that the change is only possible with children, who are our future. Taşcıoğlu included, “According to research, children of 0-3 ages will experience twice as many forest fires, 2.8 times as many crop failures, 2.6 times as many droughts and 2.8 times as many floods as the average throughout their lives. At this point, we, at Enerjisa Enerji, assume responsibility for a better future. We greatly value the projects that will raise awareness of children, who are our future, and all people on energy conservation. We are more than happy that our ‘I Protect My Energy’ project, which we launched following the protocol that we signed with the Ministry of National Education in 2010, has been going on for 14 years. As the results of our surveys, which once again reveal the importance of the education we have provided to hundreds of thousands of children, suggest, the information provided by schools and families are the most significant contributions in raising awareness. We strongly believe that the children we have had educated in 750 schools in 15 provinces so far will shape our world for a better future; hence, we will continue our project at full speed.”
