Sabancı Group Companies and Sabancı Foundation opened 3 schools in Hatay with the purpose of providing a school environment for children and teachers to get together and ensuring education is resumed. Setting off with the motto of “3 Schools in 3 Months in Hatay”, Sabancı Foundation completed Enerjisa Hatay Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Reyhanlı district on April 23, 2023, of which the construction works were initiated before the earthquake. Sabancı Lassa Secondary School, built from structural steel in the Dörtyol district of Hatay, was completed on May 19 and Sabancı Arsuz Secondary School in Arsuz was completed on June 21 to ensure students and teachers come together in 2023-2024 school year.

Emphasizing that they mobilized all their resources to prevent hindrance of educational activities in the earthquake region, Nevgül Bilsel Safkan, Managing Director at Sabancı Foundation, stated: “We are aware that education is an area of priority in solving social problems and we have been carrying out our activities accordingly since the establishment of our Foundation which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Following the devastating earthquakes which in fact affected the whole country, our priorities have included ensuring students and teachers come together in the school environment and educational activities are resumed safely. Hence, we set off with the motto of ‘3 Schools in 3 Months in Hatay’ to ensure continuous education following the earthquake. We are more than happy to complete Enerjisa Hatay Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Sabancı Lassa Secondary School, and Sabancı Arsuz Secondary School in record-breaking time. We were excited about the opening of our first school last year on a very meaningful day for us such as April 23, National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, and we are now happy to open our fourth school over the intervening year. We built Enerjisa Atatürk Elementary School with the donations of Enerjisa Enerji and its foreign shareholder E.ON. As a corporation experienced in the great impacts of collaboration, we will continue to join forces with various stakeholders for high-quality education and to put all our efforts.”

Dr. Philipp Ulbrich, CFO at Enerjisa Enerji
, stated: “I am here today representing the E.ON group which I am proud to be a part of and its 70,000 employees. Only a few days following the earthquake, over 1 million Euro was raised by our employees and our company, and we decided to build a school in Hassa. You can imagine how good it feels to see these donations turning into something that would really help people who have been severely affected by the earthquakes. Therefore, my presence here today expresses our determination, both at E.ON and Enerjisa, to improve the conditions in the region after the earthquake and to be in solidarity with local people. The collaboration of Enerjisa Enerji and E.ON in Türkiye presents a case of a critical plan for sustainable economic welfare and this building before us today stands as proof of our joint efforts and the responsibilities we assume. Finally, I would like to recapitulate our unshakable determination to play a significant role in leaving a more prosperous world to the next generations and providing the conditions for a sustainable future.”

Oğuzhan Özsürekçi, Managing Director at Enerjisa Distribution Companies
, stated: ”Five out of 11 provinces that were severely affected by the earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023, particularly Hatay, fall in the area of responsibility of Toroslar EDAŞ, one of the Enerjisa Distribution Companies. The company also suffered from the devastating earthquakes, as we lost our colleagues and suffered severe damage to our infrastructure components. Putting up a big fight since the acute periods of the earthquake, we have healed our wounds and repaired the electricity distribution infrastructure, which is our main line of business. We rehabilitated the infrastructure to bring its capacity back to the levels before the earthquake as of the first anniversary of the earthquake with investments amounting to 1.9 billion TL. We continue to work at full steam in this regard. As our efforts to provide high-quality and continuous electricity distribution services continue, we are also contributing to meet the need for education in the region which is just as important as the electricity infrastructure. We are happy and proud to open Enerjisa Atatürk Elementary School, our 4th school in the region, with the donations of our shareholder E.ON, after keeping our promise for ‘3 Schools in 3 Months in Hatay’. As we set a role model for the electricity distribution industry for a better future, we continue to meet the needs of the earthquake region.”
